Correction of dental alignment in children and adults
Orthodontic appliances not only correct misaligned teeth but also improve chewing functions, which in turn allows for an improvement in the quality of life for people of all ages.
Types of orthodontic appliances
Depending on the patient’s predisposition and the orthodontist’s recommendations, various types of fixed braces are used:
- metal braces – the most popular type of fixed orthodontic braces, chosen by patients due to their relatively low cost,
- composite or ceramic braces – not visible due to the aesthetic brackets attached to the teeth,
- lingual (invisible) braces – fixed, placed on the inner side of the dental arch, allowing for a natural smile (none of the elements of the braces is visible to the surroundings).
Orthodontic treatment in children
Orthodontic treatment in children (up to 12 years of age) is mainly treated with removable appliances, while in adolescents with fixed appliances. The duration of treatment with the appliance usually takes about 2 years.
The most important aspect during treatment is regular follow-up appointments, during which orthodontic archwires are changed. The orthodontist checks the progress of the treatment and oral hygiene during these appointments.
